It Couldst Be Giants

Uannounced, but out there.

... Giants ... will be to Jack and the Beanstalk as Tangled was to Rapunzel and Frozen is to The Snow Queen.

The film hasn’t been officially announced, and it could disappear from the schedule even after it is. But for now, work on the film continues, and I understand that director Nathan Greno has had a couple of table reads and is getting the basic shape of the film into good order. ...

So you know, I really try to keep my mouth shut about upcoming projects that aren't out on the internets. There's a reason for this: I'm a labor rep, and I get tired of being yelled at by this or that studio person because I've ruined some flack's official roll-out announcement.

I sincerely, earnestly try to avoid "breaking" anything because I walk around in all these studios and see stuff. I'm not an operator or a fan site and I really don't care what's in the development hopper one way or the other, since pictures fall in and out of work all the time. (Rapunzel/Tangled morphed into different movies for multiple years.)

I've heard this and that about Jack and the Beanstalk. I'm glad to know it's on a faster track now.

Please let this movie be called "Jack and the Beanstalk" instead of just "Giants". These one-word titles that Disney seems bent on giving all their new fairy tale adaptations are ridiculous. A classic fairy tale has audience appeal in its title alone - especially when that title is preceded by "Disney". Why confuse audiences by giving the fairy tale a different (and lesser) title?

(Yes, I know "Tangled" did great at the box office. But that was NOT because of the title!)

^ I still think there's a chance "Jack and the Beanstalk" might be reinstated as the title. After all, "Tangled" and "Frozen" were named so because some individuals did not believe female characters should have feature films named after them.

2 Disney Animated "GIANT" movies within a year-ish of each other? This is the second, the first being the animated giant in "Into the Woods" coming out next year.

Steve, is this the same film Chris Buck was working on before going back to Frozen or a completely different project?

As I mention above, features in development fall in and out of work, often with different directors attached.

I don't recall if Chris B. was on this after Frozen/Snow Queen was shelved after Princess and the Frog failed to deliver the grosses the company wanted. But maybe I can find out.

What I don't understand Steve is Why does Pixar announce their films years out But not Disney Animation? Earlier this year Pixar release a slew of concept art pics for "The Good Dinosaur" "Inside Out" & their film based on the "Day of the Dead" holiday. Plus this past April Ellen DeGeneres announces on her talk show "Finding Dory", which isn't scheduled til November 2015! Why is Disney Animation so secretive about their future films. Then again, they had no problem announcing Zootopia at this month's D23. Why would they announce a film that isn't do out for 3 years?

Giants was mentioned along with other films during news reports about D23.
So...you shouldn't be yelled at for that.
Also... if we're lucky the film will look not much like Jack in the Beanstalk, just like how Frozen doesn't resemble The Snow Queen at all.

This is like making a Humpty Dumpty movie and calling it "Scrambled".

What do you mean, "if we're lucky"? Are you saying that, because the title is not faithful to the original fairy tale, you prefer a film that's not faithful as well?

Not yelled at for Giants, but for other dumb crap. TV animation specials, new character design for Bart Simpson (years ago), and Lion King 1 1/2.

Seriously. LK 1.5 hadn't been announced, and we mentioned it in an organizing press release. Disney was not amused.

I've long thought that secrecy is silly, but I do try to honor (and adhere to) the silliness. Sometimes I slip. That's the way it goes.
